Gotham Greens: New York’s Rooftop Garden

A food producer in New York has found an innovative way to grow food in Brooklyn, a city with little open space:  rooftop gardens. Gotham Greens is providing New Yorkers with fresh, local produce while keeping high standards for sustainability. Not only do their methods yield 20-30 times more food per acre than field production, they do this using the most sustainable methods possible. They use hydroponics and use 20 times less water than conventional agriculture, reduce “food miles” by distributing locally, have integrated pest management techniques instead of chemical pesticides, and generate some of their energy using solar panels.
